FAQs
1. What does a postnatal doula do?
A postnatal doula provides emotional, practical and newborn care support to families after birth. This may include overnight care, feeding support, light household tasks, meals and reassurance as you adjust to life with your baby. However, often it’s not about what I can do, but what you can do when I’m with you; rest, eat, shower.
2. Do you offer overnight postnatal support?
Yes, I offer overnight postnatal care in your home. I care for your baby through the night, bring them to you for feeding or support bottle-feeding, allowing you to rest and recover.
3. Can a postnatal doula support us in hospital?
Yes, I provide postnatal support during hospital stays, including postnatal wards and neonatal units. I offer reassurance, practical help and respite during long or unexpected admissions. Bringing you nutritious food rather than another trip to the vending machine, someone to talk to, suggest questions that help you understand the information you’re being told. It may even be that i’m not with you, but in your home keeping things running in your absence; preparing some meals, keeping on top of laundry, grocery shopping, collecting items you need, posting parcels so that all the pressure isn’t on your partner to do and they’re in a better space to support you too.
4. Do you help with feeding overnight?
Yes. I support breastfeeding, expressed milk or formula feeding overnight, based on your preferences, always following your wishes and your baby’s cues.
5. How soon after birth can support start?
As soon as you want it.
Support can begin in pregnancy. Some families book support in advance so care is in place when they need it most. The earlier we meet, the more time our connection has to develop so you can feel relaxed in my company.
6. Do you support families with more than one child?
Absolutely! I support the whole family, including older siblings, helping families transition from one child to two (or more) with calm, practical and tailored support. I most commonly support women who are pregnant with their second child.
7. Is postnatal doula support only for parents who are struggling?
No. Many families choose postnatal doula support to prevent overwhelm, prioritise rest and feel supported during the early weeks, regardless of how birth or feeding has gone. Investing in the support you know you deserve is important for your physical, mental and emotional wellness throughout pregnancy and motherhood.
8. What areas do you cover?
I offer postnatal doula support locally. Please get in touch to check availability and whether I can support you in your area. Redhill, Reigate, Horley, Caterham, Merstham, Nufield, Bletchingley. If you can’t find a doula near you please get in touch and if I can’t help I can suggest someone who can help you.
I support at East Surrey Hospital on the Burstow Ward (Maternity & Postnatal)
9. What kind of practical support do you offer?
Practical support may include newborn care, light household tasks, meal preparation, sibling support and helping your home feel calmer and more manageable.
10. Do you offer support for special occasions like weddings?
Yes, I offer wedding doula support, providing calm, flexible childcare so parents can enjoy weddings and events knowing their baby is well cared for. Having a doula for your wedding can protect your baby’s feeding and nap schedules, reduce overstimulation. I would typically wear your baby in a carrier and bring them to you for feeding- your friends and family are much less likely to ask me to hand over a baby so they can have a cuddle! Especially good during winter months when there’s lots of bugs and germs going around.
